Introduction

One of the main aims of The Fareham Society is to stimulate public interest in the promotion of high standards of architecture and design in the Borough. To further this objective The Society has instituted an awards scheme to recognise and to encourage good design in the built environment. Awards will usually be made every 3 years.

1. Eligible Projects

Large or small projects will be eligible, such as new buildings, restoration work, or groups of buildings, including housing schemes. A separate award for notable landscaping schemes will also be considered.

2. The Awards

For the current cycle, awards will be made for the best examples of good design completed between January 2009 and 31 July 2012.

Commemorative plaques will be awarded to the winners of both the new-build and restoration sections, with framed certificates to the architects, builders and others associated with the winning entry. Framed certificates will also be awarded to highly commended entries and to the winners of the landscaping section.

The Society reserves the right, however, not to make any award if it is not satisfied that the entries submitted have been of a sufficiently high standard.

3. Assessment

Following an assessment of the nominations a panel of five, to be appointed by The Society, will judge the final short list. The panel will include two representatives of The Society, an architect, a representative of Fareham Borough Council and an independent assessor from outside the Borough. For the current cycle, the awards will be presented publicly towards the end of 2012.

4. Criteria for Nominations

The following criteria are offered as guidelines for submitting nominations:

  • How well does the design complement its surroundings?
  • How innovative is the project in concept and execution?
  • Where appropriate, how has the project made use of sustainable technology?
  • If the nomination is for a restoration project or an extension, how sympathetic is it with the original building?

5. Nominations for Awards

Nominations may be made by anyone, e.g. Fareham Society members, residents' associations, owners, architects, developers or members of the public. There is no restriction on the number of nominations that an individual or organisation may make, but it would be helpful if entrants could include a photograph of the scheme nominated.

You may download a nomination form from this web site.
