The Design Awards scheme
|
Introduction
One of the main aims of The Fareham Society is to
stimulate public interest in the promotion of high
standards of architecture and design in the Borough. To
further this objective The Society has instituted an
awards scheme to recognise and to encourage good design
in the built environment. Awards will usually be made
every 3 years.
1. Eligible Projects
Large or small projects will be eligible, such as new
buildings, restoration work, or groups of buildings,
including housing schemes. A separate award for notable
landscaping schemes will also be considered.
2. The Awards
For the current cycle, awards will be made for the best
examples of good design completed during the 3 years
prior to 31 December 2008.
Commemorative plaques will be awarded to the winners of
both the new-build and restoration sections, with framed
certificates to the architects, builders and others
associated with the winning entry. Certificates may also
be awarded to highly commended entries and to the winners
of the landscaping section.
The Society reserves the right, however, not to make any
award if it is not satisfied that the entries submitted
have been of a sufficiently high standard.
3. Assessment
Nominations for an award will be assessed by a panel of
five to be appointed by The Society. The panel will
include two representatives of The Society, an architect,
a representative of Fareham Borough Council and an
independent assessor from outside the Borough. For the
current cycle, the awards will be presented publicly in
April or May 2009.

4. Criteria for Nominations
The following criteria are offered as guidelines for
submitting nominations:
5. Nominations for Awards
Nominations may be made by anyone, e.g. Fareham Society
members, residents' associations, owners, architects,
developers or members of the public. There is no
restriction on the number of nominations that an
individual or organisation may make, but
it would be helpful if entrants
could include a photograph of the scheme nominated.
Nomination forms, which will be accepted after
mid-September 2008, will be obtainable from The Society,
Westbury Manor Museum, public libraries in the borough
and the Civic Offices, Fareham. Or you may download
a nomination form from
this web site.
Completed forms should be returned to: Design Awards Scheme The Fareham Society 12 High Street FAREHAM Hampshire PO16 7BL not later than 31 December 2008. For further information contact The Society. |
